Rooted in Real Life: A 90's Inspired Lifestyle Maternity Photoshoot

Some sessions feel like Instagram polish, and some feel like a page from an old family photo album
This was one of them.

She wore a white tshirt, caressed her bump in reverance, and stood in tennis shoes in front of a rock adorned porch and summer sun hiding behind the clouds. It felt like real life. The kind you want to remember, the kind we see too little.
This maternity session wasn’t about beautiful dresses or perfect skin. It wasn’t about staging or posing or smoothing over the stretch marks that carry proof of motherhood. It was about her.
Her story. Her growing family.
Her partner looked at her with a kind of softness that’s hard to script, and their oldest, still little himself, kept close by with the gentlest touch. It was all so uncomplicated, and that was the quiet magic of it.

This was part of a creative call I put out because I wanted to explore what it would look like to photograph motherhood the way it really is. Warm. Rooted. A little worn around the edges in the most beautiful way.
These images remind me that maternity sessions don’t have to be about polish. They can be about presence. And honestly? I haven’t seen many sessions quite like this before, but I hope to do many more just like it.
All my best,
Kendra
