Through The Eyes of Babes: A Toddler-Led Family Session Amidst Alberta Weather

Alberta summers have a special talent for switching up on us, with June specifically earning the nickname "Monsoon June". We originally had this session booked the week prior, and when Mother Nature sent us a classic summer thunderstorm, we pivoted.
I first met this beautiful family in August of 2024, when I put out a model call for an engagement session. They answered the call, and it's been a joy to watch the two of them and their son grow ever since. He has always been such a sweet, tenacious little boy; surprising me with hugs and always moving and exploring.

The original idea was a picnic themed session with bubbles and wooden toys, but he had a different plan. Since I'm a story-forward photographer, I believe it's important to let the littles lead the way, and that he did.
We met in our local day use/picnic area in Drayton Valley, Alberta and he was able to run around, popping bubbles and giggling with joy as his Mom and Dad chased him around.
Sometimes, the best sessions happen when you let go of expectations, and let the story unfold.
Before we even began, I snapped a polaroid of the three of them playing with the bubbles, Mom blowing the bubbles, Dad watching, and toddler reaching up to pop them with a smile on his face.
This could be you to! Whether you're booking a session to preserve the memories from your love story or motherhood, I offer Instax film as an optional nostalgic add-on, so you have something from the day to take home while I carefully curate your gallery.
All My Best,
Kendra
